Josรฉ Maria Lopes da Costa, foi um dos mais marcantes arquitetos portugueses da regiรฃo do Algarve, amplamente reconhecido pelo seu profundo compromisso social e o seu papel de relevo no desenvolvimento do territรณrio sul de Portugal.

A sua carreira ficou indelevelmente ligada ao perรญodo pรณs-25 de Abril, especialmente pela sua participaรงรฃo ativa nas chamadas Brigadas Tรฉcnicas do SAAL (Serviรงo de Apoio Ambulatรณrio Local). Radicado em Faro (1967), coordenou o projeto da Operaรงรฃo SAAL em Olhรฃo (1974) e integrou o Gabinete do Planeamento da Regiรฃo do Algarve - GAPA (1975 โ 1978). Foi assessor tรฉcnico da Cรขmara Municipal de Vila Real de Santo Antรณnio (1983 - 1986). Na Cooptar (1981-2000) foi responsรกvel por inรบmeros projetos de arquitetura de equipamentos e estruturas de utilizaรงรฃo coletiva, habitaรงรฃo individual e coletiva, distinguindo-se as de promoรงรฃo cooperativa, alguns dos quais premiados pelo INH. Josรฉ Maria Lopes da Costa was one of the most remarkable Portuguese architects in the Algarve region, widely recognized for his profound social commitment and his prominent role in the development of southern Portugal.
In 2024, the Order of Architects, Algarve Regional Section - OA SRAlg, in accordance with the provisions of the Statute of the Order of Architects and the Regulations for Extraordinary Members, proposed the granting of the status of Honorary Member to Architect Josรฉ Maria Lopes da Costa, member no. 548, "For the social importance of your architecture, for its functionality and Distinctive quality of your work, and by human character, humble. and generosity in favor of housing conditions "Populations of the Algarve and the urban area of โโthe region."
His career became indelibly linked to the post-April 25th period, especially due to his active participation in the so-called Technical Brigades of the SAAL (Local Ambulatory Support Service). Based in Faro (1967), he coordinated the SAAL Operation project in Olhรฃo (1974) and was part of the Algarve Regional Planning Office - GAPA (1975 โ 1978). He was a technical advisor to the Vila Real de Santo Antรณnio City Council (1983 - 1986). At Cooptar (1981-2000) he was responsible for numerous architectural projects for collective use facilities and structures, individual and collective housing, particularly those promoting cooperative housing, some of which were awarded prizes by the INH (National Housing Institute). Complexo arquitetรณnico de casas tรฉrreas rebocadas de branco com telhados inclinados de telha e terraรงos. Construรญdo no estilo tradicional algarvio, รฉ constituรญdo por moradias de um ou dois pisos com pรกtio nas traseiras. As casas geminadas formam quarteirรตes de tamanhos variados em ruas paralelas com uma praรงa surpreendentemente pequena entre elas.

Architectural complex of ground-level white plastered cottages with pitched tiled roofs and terraces. Built in the traditional โAlgarveโ style, consisting of single- or two-story homes with a rear patio. The terraced houses form blocks of varying sizes in parallel streets with a surprisingly small square in between.
