A Different Albufeira
We recently bought a new camper—a Bavaria, in the pleasantly compact 5.4-metre size—which we christened Rocinante, inspired by John Steinbeck's Travels with Charley. I had just read the book for the second time, this time in Portuguese, and once again couldn't put it down. The book tells the story of the Nobel Prize-winning author's road trip across the United States in 1960, travelling with his dog Charley in a campervan. Along the way, Steinbeck reflects on the rapid social

The tourist who fell in love with Faro launches book about the city's modernist heritage
Article from @Sulinformação See the original article here When he first arrived in Faro as a tourist, Richard Walker was unaware of the modernist legacy reflected in the city's architecture. He fell in love with the Algarve capital and, now, 20 years later, he is publishing a book that showcases this aspect of the city while also offering a glimpse into other locations across the region. ‘The Smell of Olhão’ – a funny love letter to the Algarve’s most unique Town
First design of the cover of the book by Edwin Hagendoorn The notice on the back cover — “ Warning: this is not another stupid travel guide ” — already hints at its true intention. This is not a conventional handbook for tourists, but rather a hybrid: part graphic novel, part portrait of the raw , unvarnished soul of Olhão. That very sentiment is captured with piercing clarity in the drawings of E dwin Hagendoor n, the internationally acclaimed comic artist who divides his li

This book shows 34 projects from the oeuvre of architect Manuel Gomes da Costa. These projects are all marked on a walking map at the back of the book. Additionally, other, undescribed projects in the surrounding area are shown on a map with photos. The book further discusses Manuel Gomes da Costa, his sources of inspiration and examples, and his fellow architects - António Vicente de Castro and Manuel Laginha - who together introduced Modernist Architecture to the Algarve.

O Variante de Olhão & Chalé Bela Mandil
Chalé Bela Mandil & the new 'O Varinante de Olhão' The construction of the “Olhão bypass” (“Variante de Olhão”) is progressing steadily and will almost certainly be brought into use this year . The bypass is designed to relieve the N125 , which currently still runs through the densely built outer districts of Olhão and the Ria Shopping, where it forms long traffic queues at the edge of the city during rush hour . The new bypass runs completely around the city , interrupted

Évora 2027: European Capital of Culture with Álvaro Siza's SAAL architecture in the spotlight
Maastricht didn't make it, but — quite surprisingly — Leeuwarden did. The battle for the title of Dutch European Capital of Culture 2018 was decided in favor of the latter, mainly because of its so-called underdog program. This program placed a strong emphasis on bottom-up initiatives, broad participation of the local population, and creating connections.
