Hotel Vasco da Gama
In the summer of 1958, the mayor of Vila Real de Santo António challenged private investors to build a hotel in Monte Gordo. Domingos Sancho de Sousa Uva, formed a company for this purpose. About a month later, construction of the infrastructure of the “Hotel Vasco da Gama” would begin, which would come to be considered the first truly modern hotel in the Algarve. An other important building on the boulevard is the “Casino Oceano”, which has also contributed to tourism in this location. (Photo “Casino Oceano”, with the “Hotel Vasco da Gama” in the background in 1961).
The “Casino Oceano”, was a project by architect Luís Cristino da Silva, and inaugurated in the summer of 1934, replacing the “Casino Peninsular”
